What is Processing?
Processing is a programming system that simplifies JAVA programing. It was created by Ben Fry and Casey Reas in 2001 as a simplified version of Java. They have added lots of interesting and fun graphics functions, making Processing especially fun and useful for beginning programmers.
Getting Started
Processing runs on Wndows, Mac and Linux platforms. You can download the entire system at:
http://processing.org/download/ Once it's installed, run Processing and you will see a small window, with "sketch..Processing..." at the top. Open [File | Examples]. Then choose an example program, like [Topics | Effects | FireCube]. Now click the (>) play button at the top left, and you should see the program running. |
Learning Processing
It's probably best to learn from a Processing book or tutorial. Several example are shown at the right.
You can also write STANDARD JAVA programs in Processing, but that's not nearly as much fun and it will take longer. |
